| Sleeping
close to the Pope.
The Vatican is surrounded by Rome but it’s not Rome. It’s
in the middle of Italy, but it’s not Italy at all. The
Vatican is a State on its own with its own laws and rules
and despite of its small size its chief state is probably the most
popular person in the whole world.
Thousands of people come to Rome to see him or just to feel next
to him. Thousands of people come here to pray in front of him or
to listen to his Angelus speech on Sunday morning. Looking out the
famous window overlooking Piazza San Pietro, the
huge square in front of the breathtaking basilica, every Sunday
he gives to the believers hope, renewing their faith and pronouncing
the final urbi et orbi blessing.
If you’re a believer and you’re looking forward to come
to see the Pope, or if you’re just looking
for a quieter place to stay while here in Rome, the Vatican surrounding
area is the one in which you should start looking for an accommodation.
Whether if you prefer a Rome
apartment or a hotel
in Rome, this quiet yet wonderful area will be able to suit
your needs perfectly.
St Peter’s Dome look upon all these streets and you can feel
its magnificence even in those corners in which you are not able
to fit it in your view. Just behind Via della Conciliazione, the
large street that from Castel Sant’Angelo takes to St
Peter’s Basilica, the ancient Borgo Pio area looks like
a small medieval village separate from all the rest. Its narrow
paved streets, old buildings and small shops make it look like a
presepio, a typical Italian Christmas crib.
But the Vatican surrounding area is not only about religion: Prati
is a very nice commercial area full of boutiques and shops of all
kind that get very crowded during Christmas
time in Rome. And you will just have to cross one of the beautiful
bridges of the area to get on the other side of the river and enjoy
the attractions of Piazza
Navona and Campo
de’ Fiori area.
