Rome Restaurants in the Pantheon - Campo Marzio area

Hi! We are Mauro and Paola, your personal Rome guides. Let us tell you what to see and what to do in Rome. The Pantheon is the building of ancient Rome which has been preserved best down to the present day. The most amazing characteristic of the building is the exceptional covering dome. lt is the largest dome ever created out of concrete: it measures 43.30 mt. in diameter and is greater than that of the dome of St.Peter's! Now lined with bars and restaurants.

Meat

Otello alla Concordia
(ph. 06 679 11 78; Via della Croce, 81 - Rome). Roman and regional Italian cooking. It has an attractive courtyard, which is used as a winter garden in the colder months and is well priced. There's a three-course tourist menu including wine for 20.00 euro, but the restaurant also offers single meat dishes served with vegetables that are a filling meal in themselves for 8.00 to 10.00 euro. It is popular with journalists, writers and proprietors of the nearby antiques shops. Try the exceptionally good "Spaghetti all'Otello" which is a secret recipe. It is closed on Sunday..
Da Gino
(ph. 06 687 34 341; Vicolo Rosini, 4 - Off Via del Campo Marzio near Piazza del Parlamento, around Piazza Navona - Rome). It is a trattoria of the old school with old-fashioned prices. lt's always full and popular with politicians and joumalists, especially at lunchtime. Try the home-made fettuccine cooked with peas and guanciale (bacon made from the pig's cheek) or the "Coniglio al vino bianco" (rabbit cooked in white wine). It is closed on Sunday
Hostaria Giulio
(ph. 06 68 80 64 66; Via della Barchetta, 19 - Rome). In a tiny street between Via Monserrato and Via Giulia, is another good-value family-run establishment serving traditional fare.
Osteria dell'Ingegno
(ph. 06 678 06 62; Piazza della Pietra, 45 - near Piazza Colonna - Rome). It is new on the dining scene in Roman terms. The cuisine is central Italian with an international twist. Pasta dishes start at 8.00 euro and a full meal will set you back around 25.00 euro. It is closed on Sunday.
Il Bacaro
(ph. 06 686 41 10; Via degli Spagnoli, 27 - Rome). Around the corner from the Pantheon. The pasta and risotto dishes are imaginative and delicious and they do great things with beef and veal. lt's got an excellent (and well-deserved) reputation, booking is essential. It is closed on Sunday. A meal with wine will cost 30.00 to 40.00 euro.
Fish
La Rosetta
(ph. 06 683 08 841; Via della Rosetta, 8-9 - Rome). Near the Pantheon, it is without doubt the best seafood restaurant in Rome. The menu features innovative combinations of flavours and ingredients, and the owner-chef is regarded as one of the best in Italy. But reputations come at a price: expect to part with at least 70.00 euro for a memorable meal here. It is closed on Sunday and booking is essential.
Pizza
Pizzeria Il Leoncino
(ph. 06 687 63 06; Via del Leoncino, 28 - Rome). For a bargain pizza. It is across Via del Corso from Via Condotti. You can eat and drink for around 8.00 to 12.00 euro; it's closed on Wednesday
Di fronte a...
(ph. 06 678 03 55; Via della Croce, 38 - Rome). Pizza, restaurant, cafè. It is across Via del Corso from Piazza di Spagna. You can eat and drink for around 20.00 to 30.00 euro; it's closed on Monday
Ethnic
Oliphant
(ph. 06 686 14 16; Via delle Coppelle, 31 - Rome). Tex-Mex restaurant. You'll pay around 30.00 euro. All Credit cards. Open only for dinner, Saturdy and Sunday also at lunch.
