| Piazza del Popolo
area. This vast piazza was laid out in the early 16th century at
the point of convergence of three roads (Via di Ripetta, Via del
Corso and Via del Babuino) which form a trident at what was the
main entrance to the city from the north. The piazza has recently
and magnificently restored, and is now one of the finest of Rome's
traffic-free pedestrian areas.
To the east is a ramp leading to the Pincio, which affords
a stunning view of Rome.
