| Palazzo di Montecitorio
has been the seat of the Chamber of Deputies, the lower house of
the Italian parliament, since 1871..
The obelisk in the centre of the Piazza was brought to Rome from
Heliopolis in Egypt by Augustus to celebrate his victory in 30 BC
over Cleopatra VII and her ally Mark Antony.
Mausoleo di Augusto. A circular monument, ordered by Augustus
as a tomb for himself and his family, it was covered by a tumulus
with cypress trees and had a bronze statue of the emperor.
