| The
Circo Massimo (Circus Maximus) lies between the Palatino
and the Aventino in a valley once known as the Vallis Murcia. Really.
there is much to see: only a few ruins remain of what was once a
chariot racetrack, about 600m and 90m wide, decorated with statues
and columns and surrounded by wooden stands which held more than
200.000 spectators!
The Circo Massimo remained un use until 549 AD. Excavations of the
ruins continue at the estern end. It's now a popular place for jogging
and walking dogs.
